A Heavy Heart

Our house has been busy the last few weeks. My mom has been here and we added Greg's family in last week. The occasion was Christian's blessing. It was great to have them here. I really appreciate the effort all made to be here. While I love them being here for the big events of my children's lives, I love more seeing them interact, play with, and love my children. There is nothing more endearing to a mother than to see others love her children.

While the weekend was a joyous occasion, there was a veil of sadness that encircled it. As we listened to the announcements in church on Sunday we learned of the all too soon passing of a precious little one only 16 days younger than our Christian. It has caused me to reflect a lot on things.

I don't know that anyone wouldn't argue that losing one’s child is every mother's worst nightmare. The circumstances that preceded this angel’s early departure would make the best of us question the reasons why. I guess in some ways it's almost a blessing to not know why, to only have faith and continue on. All that is required is to believe that the in comprehensible will someday be comprehendible and that all things that make no sense will and will eventually flow together to create a beautiful story that we would never change the content of.

As we drove home today from the funeral I realized that death is the great equalizer. No one is immune from it. All will feel of its effects and all will experience it. In a world that put so much emphasis on things that don't matter, seeing a situation like this makes you humbly realize what does matter.

If you read this C. and B., know we love you and that we will never forget your precious H. and the lessons she and you have taught us and will hopefully continue to teach us for years to come.

of course i agree. i think losing a child would be the one thing that could seriously (and i really mean it) shake my testimony. i'm always amazed at people for whom this doesn't happen. i just don't know that i could handle it. i'm sorry that your sweet friends have to.

I'm so sorry for your friends' loss. We have some neighbors that live up the street who have become very close friends since the loss of their baby one year ago. As we sat in their kitchen for dinner a few nights ago, it was so sweet to hear Brennon, this big, burly guy, sincerely tell us how grateful he and his wife Denise are for our friendship because it has brought him back to the church and Denise plans to be baptized in a few months, once he receives the Melchizidek priesthood and can baptize and confirm her. Of course we know it is not us, but a loving Heavenly Father who reached one of his children through a painful experience.
Blessings and reasons for tragedy don't usually come this quickly, but I have faith (from my family's own experiences) of the strength and depth of testimony your friends will be able to gain over time.
In the meantime, they are blessed to have friends like you to lean on as they mourn the loss of their sweet girl.
